Summer is a great time to explore new activities or get extra time doing the things you love. Discovery Camps offer kids a memorable week of "everything about horses." Horse crazy kids watch movies about horses, read books about horses and dream of a horse of their own. Here's a chance for them to experience the real "ins and outs" of horse ownership in a fun but educational environment.
During each camp our goal is to continue to expand our vision of helping children feel loved and accepted in a safe space where staff and volunteers uphold the values of their faith, the power of prayer and the significance of horse/human relationships. Participants will be able to experience fun crafts, games, pony cart rides, horse chores, horsemanship and riding skills all while focusing on character virtues of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control in their interactions with each other, the horses, and their world.
If you have a child with special needs and have no access to other funding sources, please contact us as you may qualify for sponsored programming. Discovery Equine accepts funding from MCFD-AFU, Variety Club, CKNW Orphan's Fund, ISpark, and Canadian Tire Jump Start.
Camp Shetlands (4-7 year olds)
9:00am – 12:00 noon
Last year we got a lot of requests for younger kids that are not ready to ride, or that ride but are still quite young and so we have created Camp Shetlands just for them! In this camp they will work with our small ponies, Thunder, Lotto, Angel, and Coconut. They will learn to lead them, groom them and they will learn to drive the cart with Thunder and Lotto. They will also learn basic body parts of a horse, names of brushes, how to ask a horse to walk forward, to stop, to back up and to lead over obstacles. There will be other various activities such as games, bathing the ponies (weather dependent), painting the ponies etc. There will also be a short ride for each participant (if they want, but not a requirement if they are not ready!).
No experience is necessary for Camp Shetlands, Within each camp the students will be separated into appropriate skill levels.

We get it, for some kids learning something new can be a stressful yet challenging experience. In groups setting, anxiety can often get in the way of an enjoyable learning opportunity.
We try hard to help kids engage with horses, their mentor and the learning process with any expectations. We start from where they are at an move on from there in a safe, supportive environment.
Children who have experienced trauma, anxiety, mental health struggles, and other debilitating challenges often gravitate to the companionship of a horse. We try to drop all barriers to these opportunities in their first introduction.
For horse crazy kids who have not had lessons before, we welcome them to come for an introductory lesson. Gift cards available.
Any questions. please text Laura at (604) 316-4374.
If you child is missing their session time throughout the summer, we have openings available to bridge the gap before September sessions start.
While we strongly encourage the horse camps for social learning, making new friends, and extended session times, we understand this this does not work for all kids and families.
During the summer months, there may be opportunities for a parent, grandparent, or sibling to participate in a session. It makes for great learning and good memories.
Please contact us for available dates for the month of July. Later in June, August openings will be made posted.
Any questions, please text Laura at (604) 316-4374.
